Required Equipment

Speed skating does not require a lot of equipment, however for the safety of the athlete, a few basic items are necessary. They include:

  1. CSA approved, hard-shell helmet which fastens securely under the chin
  2. Neck guard with chest protector
  3. Cut resistant and waterproof gloves made of vinyl or leather
  4. Kneepads - volleyball kneepads are great
  5. Soccer-type shin guards
Skates

Speed skates are not required for our training program. However, we will be happy to rent you them should you choose. Alternatively there is a good selection of new and used skates available on the market. We would be happy to assist you with the fitting and answer any questions you may have.

Optional

Speed skating suits are not necessary if you are just learning to skate or just skating for the thrill of it. However, if you wish to compete a speed skating suit is required. Used suits often become available as athletes grow, so please contact the office should you wish to pursue this avenue. New/custom suits are available by speaking with Jacky Shoebridge pauljacky@shoeicreations.com or calling 658-6354. Shoei Creations carry a full line of speed skating equipment. *Please note that a Club suit is now mandatory when skating the final of any race.
