2017-2018 Speed Skating SeasonCelebrating the Life of Sam Fackoury
September 18, 1960 - October 14, 2017
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.
Please join Sam's family on Friday, October 20th at 7 p.m. at the Hacienda Sarria, 1254 Union Street, Kitchener to celebrate the life of this wonderful man. Celebration dedication will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.
Sam lived life to the fullest and will be deeply missed by his wife of 33 years, Jackie (nee Beattie), children Sarah Widdis (Mickel), Bradley (Rachel) and Eric (Lyndsey), and holding a special place in his heart , granddaughter Hadley Widdis. He will be fondly remembered by his mother, Celeste Fackoury, parents in-law Dave and Verna Beattie, sisters Kendra Fowler (Fred) and Cheryl, brothers and sisters in-law Ed and Kim Dickson, Howie & Karen Beattie along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father, Paul and his sister Denice.
Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses and the support of many dear friends and family who helped us through the past 3 years with Sam's heroic journey with cancer.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made honoring him to Rockway Mennonite Collegiate. Sam appreciated how Rockway helped form his children into the successful, hard working, compassionate adults they have become and continued to believe in the mission of the school.

The Skate Doctor Makes It All Better
Lauren Halls, 9, sat on the tiled ledge in the lobby of Hespeler Arena and pulled on her black-with-pink-polka-dots speed skating socks.
It was time to see if the Kitchener girl's special left skate still fit for the coming season.
Halls, a quietly determined choir girl who is learning violin, slipped her foot into the Australian-made boot bolted to a premium Chrome steel blade from the Netherlands.
A custom brace hinged to the boot wrapped around her shin like a bionic-looking appendage.
"You look like The Terminator," Vytas Jasinskas, the boot-altering, blade-sharpening Skate Doctor of the Cambridge Speed Skating Club said to Lauren as she pulled her athletic suit pant-leg down to cover it.
Summer Ice Program
Thanks to our guests from KW, Milton, Oakville, Toronto and the USA for joining our summer ice program.
Have a great rest of your summer!
On The Ice In the Height Of Summer - Children ages 6 - 12
Cambridge club's introductory lessons give kids a chance to try speed skating
Even in the height of summer, when most of us are thinking about beaches and cool drinks, nine-year-old Cooper Williams would rather be in an arena, zipping along on his skates.
The weather was a bit cool this weekend for August, but it was much chillier inside Hespeler Memorial Arena, as coach Blake Morrison taught a half-dozen kids the rudiments of speed skating. The Saturday hour-long lesson was the first of four introductory lessons that the Cambridge Speed Skating Club is offering this August (VIEW FLYER).
The club usually offers introductory lessons in the fall, but the extra session in the summer was made possible by a grant from RBC's Learn to Play program, which aims to get kids more physically active.
Learn to Speed Skate - Children ages 6 - 12
Learn the basics of speed skating in a fun environment.
Must be able to skate forward, 1 lap of arena and stop.
FOUR Saturdays in August at Hespeler Memorial Arena!
4 classes for $40.

Cambridge Multi-Sport Oval
Presently the people of Cambridge are frustrated with the lack, size and age of the facilities available for sport and leisure within the City.
Organizations are forced to travel to communities outside of Cambridge to participate in the activities they enjoy.
Decades of fiscal restraint coupled with continuous growth has Cambridge in a prime position financially to offer the expansion of its facilities to include this Multi-Sport Oval facility.
Please visit: www.cambridgeoval.ca for more information on this exciting opportunity that could lead Cambridge and the Region of Waterloo to the centre stage of athletics in Southern Ontario!
