Getting Started

For skaters new to the sport and looking for a guide to start with Cambridge Speed Skating Club, please read the guide below:

1. Trial Class or TryB4UJoin Program Visit

Come join us for a trial class to see if Speed Skating is for you. Or purchase a series of consecutive classes to get an extended preview, also known as the TryB4UJoin program. Contact us either from the Contact page or send an email to our board at infocambridgessc@gmail.com to arrange your trial class. If you wish to sign-up for the TryB4UJoin, please be sure to use the IceReg link on the program page. A new skater will be starting with the Fundamentals group so please be sure that you are free either Tuesday or Thursday from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. IMPORTANT: minimum required equipment must be worn, be sure to refer to the Equipment Required page. Skates (boots and blades) will be provided and arranged for your skater for the trial class.

2. Understand the Pricing Structure and Member Responsibilities

The pricing for speed skating includes the Program Club Fee (depending on program choice), SSO and SSC insurance/membership fees, and Skate (boot and blade) Rental. For the full Pricing and Fees be sure to visit to review the Pricing Details page. Members are also responsible and required to attend a minimum of two (2) Charity Gaming events per skater registered per year (2/skater/year), for details on the required charity gaming please refer to Charity Attendance page. Charity Attendance helps to subsidize ice fees.

3. Confirm Availability

Confirm again the program you wish to sign up for (Fundamental, Development, or Elite) and which Session Day. You are welcome to contact and confirm availability.

4. Begin Registration

Once you have decided on the program and confirmed availability, begin your Registration from this page which provides instructions and a link to IceReg (the registration service site) – we use Icereg to perform the cart, program selection, and membership registration. If you have any questions please reach out to us via the Contact page or browse through the FAQs for more details.

5. After Registration

Do you have all the necessary equipment (review the Equipments page again)? Do you want to update your equipment? Refer to the FAQs and Store links for more information on where to locate new and used equipment. Be sure to ask about being added to the WhatsApp group, if you have not already been invited – this is great for connecting with members and asking more questions. Have you contacted our Cambridge Gaming coordinator, Amber, to arrange your volunteering? Email Amber at bingocssc@gmail.com for schedule and availability.

6. Have you learned about the Required Charity Attendance?

Contact Amber, our Cambridge Gaming and Lottery coordinator, for important information on how to learn to be a “runner” at the Cambridge Bingo and Gaming Centre, check the schedule, and confirm your availability. Please note again that 2 attendances are required per skater registered per year. You are welcome to volunteer more than 2, this benefits the club but it is not required. You have one session cadence to cover the required 2. ** If you choose not to volunteer, you will be responsible for covering the associated fee ($700 per skater/year).

7. Have you learned about Meets?

Meets are competition days with fun and competitive races for any skater. This is highly recommended to give your skater a taste of competitive Speed Skating. For more details please visit either the Competition/Meets or Meets 101 pages.
